Has anyone installed a remote starter in their vehicle?
I have a 1999 SL500 and I just got a GREAT deal on a Viper SmartStart (ebay), that lets you start your car with your smartphone.
Looking for any wiring diagrams/locators to learn where to tap in various connections. Any help would be appreciated.
I've found this so far...

1999 MERCEDES SL500 2DR CONVERTIBLE

But it doesn't seem too detailed, and I'm not sure how trustworthy it is.
Anyone have another source?

Update

Went to have the starter installed. There's a local place that did my last one for $100. He said I need a key. Called the MB dealer and was surprised to be able to get a valet key for $50. I went ahead and ordered it. I believe that the key and a $13 bypass module will be all it takes. It appears I need a

I have had put remotes in cadillacs, Lincolns, Dodge Rams, but have a bit sketchy about the SL. The electronics seem pretty sensitive when left alone yet alone tapped into. I thought about making the top remote too but haven't got there yet. On the 93, I don't have an electric trunk release or electric doors, so lots of things to reengineer. Keep us posted. I'm very interested!

Ps, what the hell is the valet key for ?

the valet key prevent access to interior compartments and trunk when locked with the master key. so if you lock the internal locking system and trunk the valet key will not unlock them. it says in your manual somewhere.

That must be important to the billionaire owners with the new cars! I doubt anyone wants my California duster out of the trunk ! I don't keep a bunch of crap in my car. I have nothing except sunglasses in the sun glass case ! I didn't see what the valet key had to do with installing the remote start. Course maybe the guy that recommended that to you knew you had lots of cash in your many locked compartments ! :D

The key is essential

The factory security system and immobilizer will not allow the car to start unless it senses the presence of the transponder in the key when you put it in the ignition. The valet key serves that purpose for $50 vs $175 for the switchblade key with buttons. The starter installation will require that key to be attached in the dash next to the ignition switch. Ideally this would be a programed, but uncut key. My dealer said they only get them already cut, so I will have to cut off the blade or otherwise render it unusable. I would not want a working key in the car, even if it is hidden inside the dash.
