I don't mind leaving a transponder key in the box - I can get a spare for $30 on ebay and get the dealer to program it (probably a $100 for that).

questwest,

I just did a search for your username and could not find any post on remote starter...

Can you share your experience here? Did you use the same device that is on ebay? What other components do you need to get this to work other than the key hidden in the truck..

Thanks,
maneesh

well its rather complicated
first i had to buy a transponder from dealer and tap it in to the original

second you have to get a remomote starter hardware itself mine came with clifford alaram

third i sugest you use a professional shop to do istallation as it is not for a faint hearted

and the last one since i was among the first ones to use it it took about 3 or 4 month to figure out how to do it right and i am on my last 8th key.[V]

but what complicated my install also was the alaram itself as the shop has added the express window up and down modules on all 4 windows and sunroof/still doesn't work right to this day/

but i think this days almost any shop that sells ind installs remote starts should be able to do it in a few hours. the best time to do it is before christmas a lot of shops running specials specificaly for remote starters.
also if you buy it somewere else and bring it to the shop to install it they won't touch it, unless they are desperate for your business. but be carefull there as they will screw it up and blame it on a bad hardware which is not far from the truth.

hope that helps.

I wish it were that easy. The dealers won't or can't reprogram the keys. That is why there is a class action suit going on about the keys. After 8 there is a $3600 replacement of the AAM other associated goodies.
If dealers could or would reprogram keys then nobody would have to worry when they get to key #8.
