Any suggestion as to what type of finish for OE rims on a '90 560SEL, ie powder coating vs conventional, and references to to either one.

Thanks

Buy polished or chrome and never go back,,,

I was a purist for close to 20 years, but the fact after getting polished and/or chromed rims I would never go back.

Nowadays, I keep the stock rims in the garage for all my cars, and scout eBay for vendors with good deals on polished and/or chromed rims.

On new plished/chromed rims, oftern the eBay vendors in the wheel business can give a better deal if you call them direct.

Has nothing to do with eBay, but most have commissioned counter people who are motivated to write a sale.

Have fun !

Sunny,

I mulled this one over for a while, too. I ended up going with the 15-hole replica rims that Tirerack.com sells. Shops with experience doing these kinds of rims wanted roughly $70 each to powdercoat the originals. You have to pay to have the tires removed and then reinstalled. Not to mention leaving your car on jack stands for a week or two and having to deliver and pick up the rims.

I ordered the replicas for $99 each through Discount tire. Since I bought my tires from them, they didn't charge me to swap the rims. My total cost was $99 + tax + what tirerack charged them for shipping the rims UPS ground. New center caps and lug bolts are included although the lug bolts are shorter than the original so I didn't use them.

I had discount tire save the boxes for me and then sold my original rims for $200 plus shipping to someone on another Mercedes board. So my net cost was just over $200.
