Saw an S430 for sale today. After shutting it down, checked the oil. It was WAAY over the mark, and reddish. Anyone chime in as to why? Varnish residue?

Royal purple oil has been known to change to a strawberry color over time. Maybe that is it.

As for the "way over the line" concern, one should wait at least 5 minutes before checking the oil level as well. Wipe it off with a paper towel the first time you pull it out, then check it again. The second time, it should reflect the actual level.
