I currently drive a BMW but am having some issues with their company so I've decided to look into a Mercedes. I like the sporty look but also like luxury and my price range is about $45k-80k.

Obviously, all or most of you are Mercedes owners. What do you think of it?

And if anybody has any recommendations I'd really appreciate it.

I'd look at a W211 2009 E550. Even though the W212 E-Class debuts in 2010, the 1st year series and a couple years after (at least in the most recent E-Class), has been problematic. The 2009s should be the least trouble-free.

The 2010 W221 S-Class might be worth a look but it will exceed your $80,000 top limit. Believe it or not, since they normally frown upon MB in general, is that Consumers Reports likes the newest S-Class.

Great, thanks. I mean I don't really want to spend over 80 grand, but if it's only a few thousand more then I suppose I could do that. I'm going to make some calls tomorrow to some local dealerships.

You will find the steering feel is significantly different but if that's not a huge deal breaker for you then I'd definitely recommend MBZ. I also believe the interior finishes, those that are coated with the rubbery thin skin type paint, tend to show wear more quickly in the BMW's of recent years (except the early SLK's which have the problem as well).

You didn't mention what sort of MBZ you were considering, large sedan, suv, sports coupe, roadster, etc.?

What are you looking for in a car? SUV/CUV/Sedan/Ragtop/coupe?

I assume you have something like a 5 or 7 series now. If that is the case, look at an 08 S550. That is going to be right within your price range and it is a good car. I'd steer clear of buying a new 09 E350/E550 because they about to depreciate like a rock in the next 2 months (new body style replacement). It makes zero 'cents' to purchase one. The S550 is just getting a 2010 face lift, not a new body.
