I saw a video about Forever Black Bumper & Trim dye and thought
it worth a try. Had to order it via Ebay as its not widely distributed.
I will say I am impressed with the results. Its a dye, has no silicone.
Before you apply, you have to clean the surface with a cleaner to remove
any previously applied silicone like Armor All. Some reading about this
product suggested to use Goof Off in lieu of the supplied cleaner.
That is what I did on my 560SL - cleaned the bumpers, door handle,
and side trim with Goof Off.
Supplied is a foam brush that you "paint" this dye on. Directions stated to
squeeze some dye from the bottle onto the foam brush - I used a plastic lid
to hold a small dab of this dye and dipped the foam brush in it as
I was applying it. If you get any black dye on the body paint or chrome,
you need to quickly wipe it off with a damp rag.
This product was really easy to apply. The only area that would
be a problem is the side trim which has an embedded chrome piece and you
can't get the black dye between the rubber and the painted surface - see
my second photo. Now, if one knows how to remove the side trim or maybe
use painters tape that could be addressed too.
I was really impressed with the way it blacked out the dull gray door handle and side trim.
It is supposed to be long lasting, so I will have to see.
I've tried several other products including Armor All, Back to Biack, and some other
products but none of them performed as well as this Forever Black.
Below are before and after photos of the door handle along with a
photo of my rubber bumper after applying Forever Black:
