:big laugh: That's hilarious! I waxed the inside part and have noticed that it doesn't get dirty from inside as fast and secondly it doesn't seem to fog up as much or as easy when the climate control is not on. but then, it could be a mental thing, knowing that I did do it.

At least everyone should do the outside this way at least once just to see.

this may sound daft, but what is house hold ammonia

Household ammonia

is the kind you get at the grocery store as opposed to the full strength stuff that janitorial places and chemistry suppliers sell.On wiff of that stuff will kill you.

Seems like a little too much work, I just use simple green, then a thin Rain-x layer. Take 2 minutes every other months.

I rarely need wiper during the rain.:thumbsup:

To remove waterspots... use 100% white vinegar on a paper towel and wipe glass... do not get the vinegar on paint or rubber... make sure it stays on glass. Wipe dry and clean with glass cleaner as normal.

I am not sure about waxing the windshield. Some carwash stations even give out towels with dewaxing stuff to remove the wax intended for the paint only and not for glas.

I've been using Turtle wax on my windows for years. It really does work. However, I never put it on the inside of the windows as it can damage the tint and there really is no need to wax the inside.

Some forms of wax are not affected by cola. Only one household item may get wax from your windshield. Try putting a little Cameo Aluminum and Stainless Steel Cleaner on a damp paper towel. On a square foot trial section rub into glass in a polishing motion. Then use another paper towel with water to wipe excess off and then clean with glass cleaner.

Interesting. I wonder if wax is as good as rain-x?
I use rainex mainly to make it easier to scrape ice off in the winter. It doesn't last the whole winter, however.

I found a trick recently that worked well for me. A buddy of mine gave me a can of detailing clay that was made for cleaning overspray (slightly harder then the regular detail clay you would use before waxing).
I tried it on the windshield and it worked excellent for removing all traces of dirt. I was getting some chatter at the end of the wiper's movement. This stuff removed everything and left the glass.... as smooth as glass. You could see the black gunk it was pulling off what I thought was already clean glass (with a regular glass cleaner).

So my thought is, rather then just piling on waxes and coatings on the glass, use a real cleaner once and a while to take off all the grime.
