As the majority of the 107s slowly rot away in Europe so do the sale prices of the well kept ones go up.

It will be another 15 years or so before 107s in NA see any real significant resale $$.

By then, at the rate I abuse The PIG....it will be worthless. :)

But a decent 107 shipped from NA to Europe might start looking like a good business plan.

IMO, 21000GBP is not that special money for any RHD in a genuinely good condition. Finding one in such condition and finding a seller willing to pay the right price is not impossible but rare.
I am baffled as to what "few owners" stands for
IMO past the second it is very likely it has been someone's white elephant.

63000gbp is excellent money but if the very first owner is selling isn't it an utter financial loss?
Unless it was right next to the fireplace for daily admiration whilst sipping the post-dinner cognac... for the past 26 years.

"Few owners" is maybe 2 or 3 not 10 or 15.

Yeah..I reckon up to 3 ish for a 1973...?

They don't give a further analysis of "fo" in their key.

A bit subjective really given date differences.

Mine is definitely an "fo", given only one previous owner, also I regularly wish the car would just "f o " :wink

I imagine thats roughly where it was sitting Djenka...In his/her collection. Dunno how much they cost new without looking it up? maybe 10000 pounds ish?...63000 24 years later and all that 'admiration value' isn't too terrible, even if it were, I don't think they'd be that 'bovvered'. :wink

Corrected for age and inflation, 1989's money (in a Yorkshireman's pocket) is about nominally 2-3 times worth more today.
If it was indeed 10G's in 1989, then it may had a quite meaningful return on initial investment (less the cost of finance, storing, insurance and maintenance).
Top it with cognac and the fireplace... and maybe there is a world class winner there after all..

It trully makes me rethink if I should help the housing bubblenomincs or perhaps invest in a uber rare AMG, a few cases of cognac and a glass extension to the lounge.
I am sure the hardest part is only to endure the first 25 years...

Wow. Thats $108,000 USD.
Here in the USA one can purchase *several* ultra nice R107s for that
amount of money.
Vehicle price difference between USA vs Europe and Australia have always seemed huge.

NB That black 500 SL had only 980 miles on it...but still!.

The 1973 350 SL I mentioned earlier hereabouts also would seem exceptionally high to you too I guess... at a sold price of 20900 quid.

(Does to me too!)

Probably a 'tax deduction' too, 'Superannuation investment? ' :grin

I've always been a driver. I've also never had the kind of disposable cash to sit on a "hobby".

So, to me, a 980 mile SL is not that impressive because it would cost thousands to make it roadworthy and reliable.

So now I'll get down off this soapbox and put my lunch pail away, dust off my coveralls and go back to the coal mine. :)

I've actually seen them start to rise here in CA as well. There's a couple 380s with 50-75k miles on them that are selling in the 20s around here. They are definitely clean examples, but those prices would've been unheard of a few years ago. I think that with most things, the CA cars always start to rise in value first since we have none of the rust issues and I think that's what we're seeing here.

On a related note, my father the eccentric Brit is in the process of buying his retirement home in the UK and moving back for good. However, his last order of business is to buy a Rolls Royce, probably of the Silver Spur II or III vintage, and take it with him. Apparently he has been speaking to a number of dealers over there and they're telling him he is better off buying a CA car and shipping it over because almost nothing of that vintage (similar to our 107s) remains without serious rust issues in the UK and those that do command astronomical prices.
