An electric rear window shade was available from factory but VERY few cars had these... most found overseas than in the US. The shade was powered by a switch infront of the coin tray.

I am getting one that needs repairing and I have the Body & Chassis manual that details it. Once I get mine, then I will post a thread on how it's done.

If you need any of the supplemental parts, pm me!
Will Do! When I did my resto, I did not install the 3rd brake light back in so no worries there and I am completely familiar with pulling everything out and the wiring of my car. If you seen my VLOG and you will see I know all what lurks back there.

I also have a full manual set so no surprises there, But I have learned early to listen to those who have done it. I loved the pics and I am sure I will have questions a plenty. I do not know what color it is that he has, but if it does not match, I can recolor it. I am quite adept at that and I also have a crack Interior shop that is REALLY reasonable to do the hard stuff.

Thanks!

Just snagged that one Snibble had. It's on it's way now. It's blue, so the cover will have to be recovered. When I recovered my parcel tray, I ordered an extra yard of material which is the OEM MB material in the proper gray.

Looks from the pics an easy recover job for my upholstery guy and should be a straightforward job. I have to take out my drivers seat to fix a seat anchor, good time to do that and run the power cable. I already have a hole cut out in the change cup, so I should be all set.

I have 4 factory MB wires that power the Gen I antenna I retrofitted. They go back to the antenna bay. This car should have the fully automatic antenna and I think I have a spare. So I should not have to rip too much out.

Good deal. A former teammate of mine is manning the parts desk at his local (German) MB dealership, so he should be able to dig up any loose ends in case you can't source them here...but it sounds like you're well under way. Post pics when you can!

Cheers!!

Will Do! I will post a full blog, because I am sure that even though Snibble says it's perfect, It's the wrong color (Blue and I need Grey) So I will document the color change. Luckily (as you well know) the shade itself is Grey. So I only have to do the top cover and what? The top of the shade itself? The very top part?

Also, how does it operate? By what principal? I mean, I know there is a Rod, but does not look like it is geared, nor any type of pully mechanism on top. I only saw Kodiak's briefly and he was in a hurry to beat the weather (And I didn't blame him one bit as our last snow storm dropped 5" of snow. That day it "Only" rained but we do get flooded quickly!) so I didn't really get a good look at it. I saw HHERIC's at the show, but not operating.

So what is it's principal?

Gosh, it's been so long...I think it's a pulley system...actually, the string ("Seele") breaking is probably the most common mode of failure.
Kalifornia is right.

The system is almost identical to the power antenna; a toothed, semi-rigid, nylon string and a reversible motor.

Quite simple and robust. A new nylon rope is only about $15 at the dealership.

The trick is getting the broken end out before you slide the new rope in.........:(

Think I should replace it before it goes in?

No harm done Kalifornia;) Although the shade is not mine, I too would replace it... but from what I was told its fully functional. $15 is not a whole lot to save aheadache say one of those nylon teeth wears off.
