Hi all,

I got a new rear view mirror for my 77 240D, found this post, but am afraid to take my old mirror out before I know how to put the new one back in. Do I just pop it back in? Surely it couldn't be that easy! [:I]

There's a spring loaded fastener on the stalk which is really strong, so just push it back in or pull it out hard. They're designed to come off with a large force, or put back in with the same force.

Caution: Do not remove the mirror face from the stalk, it's hard to put back in. We picked a good one from the yard but accidentally pulled the mirror from the stalk, now I don't want to break the glass by pushing hard just so the stalk ball joint would fit nicely.

I have mine in chrome. My 560sl has one, and I have 2 more.

One is going in my wagon and I might sell the other. It is a nice touch and looks classy.

Installation;

Place it against the base at an angle and push it towards the side of car to compress the spring and then push it up.

Thanks all for your tips. Keep your fingers crossed for me this weekend - hoping I have enough brute strength to pull out and push back in this mirror. I'll let u know if I have any problems. Thanks again!
