I have found that this "special" tool works very well and makes it very easy to install the rear view mirror. Simply cut off a length of 2.5 mm steel wire (about 20 cm), squeeze the spring with plyers, insert the end of the wire on one side between the frame and the edge of the lock (on the spring side) and gentle manouver the mirror base into position, hold it firmly into place and retract the wire.
