I am planning on having all trim and bumpers painted black to match in a couple of weeks (once I get some dang money) and I am debating whether or not I should ditch the tire carrier.

However I am worried that the rear of the vehicle will look really plain and old fashioned.

Would anyone like to purchase it if I do decide to remove it?

How do you remove it?

Thanks,

I would be VERY interested. Been combing eBay for one for a couple of years. I would only put it on when going off roading so I dont have to have my full sized spare inside the car.

Let me know.

imho, i don't like it. get rid of it and just add like a step bar or something so it wont look plain.

i think the truck is a little too small for something that gigantic. it looks awkward. put a bull bar on and you'll be good

I agree with the sentiments of the members above - I don't think the spare tire carrier matches the general symmetry of the W163.

Get rid of it.

Your ML looks great though otherwise!

Godfather,
Paint the bumpers black, ditto to that ... forget what I've said before about the interior trim on your dash and sorry to be critical again, but in any case, get rid of this thing, airbrush it out, do something!

As far as it goes right now, I think I am going to sell it.

First I need to know how to remove it. Any ideas or guides you know of?

Just to see how it looks.

I am not digging the side steps in the picture, but I think its just the picture.

I think the steps work with the chrome bull bar, chrome grille, chrome wheels and polished roof rails.

Another option I have thought about is for about an extra $350 is to get the sport bumper with the ridges at the bottom. And then I believe there is even a chrome plate to mount on the sport bumper.

eBay Motors: MERCEDES ML350 ML430 ML55 CHROME REAR BUMPER COVER (item 200225190477 end time May-25-08 16:52:31 PDT)
I really cant picture where this goes or what it looks like on the ML.

I was thinking I could put of of those rectangular square things on... dont know what they are called but it makes the bottom of the trunk flush with the bumper. I think that is how the 02+ rear trunks are. I guess this plus the popular chrome trunk handle will be enough to update and blend the rear end with the rest of the vehicle.
