good morning, just a question, I was wondering if all 1992 500sel models were equipped with the rear sunshade? if so was it standard? I am the second owner of my car and I don't have one that I know of. can some one please add a pic of where the button or switch is located? also can I order one somewhere? it gets awfully hot in B-more in the summer. this is a wonderful thread, a wealth of information, thanks.[8]return of the MACK.

The electric rear sunshade was one of the few options that were offered for the W140 in the U.S. Almost everything else was either standard or not available at all.

M.B. in Europe provides a full set which includes the shade itself, the new rear parcel shelf, the motor, and all fittings. For one reason or another my options catalog is missing the part numbers for W140s, but all electric shades for W124s and W126s are listed with the prefix:

B6 668 XXXX

Hence I will try the dealer to see if they get a set for you. One warning: it is stupidly expensive $$$

Hello,

I have made a quick scan of the relevant pages from a 1997 US prospect.
Will try to make a better one of the whole prospect in the future.
It is hard to scan, since it is larger than A3 2-pages up...

http://www.pvv.org/~syljua/merc/1997_W140_US_Prospect_Sample_Pages.pdf

So, you see, at least for these models it was an
option. I think the S600L had a separate prospect.

In Europe, it was never standard and the cost at
the time was 787DM (~400Euro)
