Lately I’ve noticed my car being a bit bouncy and wobbly in the rear.
Also, on the freeway my car is very unstable, especially if it’s windy.
I know that my front end is ok (alignment, struts, ball joints, coils,
steering damner, etc..) I also just replaced the tires, so I know this
problem has to be something else? I’m not sure about the rear shocks
though? I think this maybe the culprit? Is there a way to tell if there
gone? I did the bounce test & it seemed to feel a bit loose & bouncy!
Mercedes rear shocks $450pr/Cnd. KYB rear shocks $200pr/Cnd.

If you need shocks check out these sites, they may be cheaper:

http://www.alloemcarparts.com

http://www.thebenzbin.com

http://www.thepartsbin.com

http://www.aj-usa.com

Also, on ebay there is a set of KYB's front struts and rear shocks, I know you do not need both but they are priced well $183.00 buy it now, I see he has shipping to USA only but you could email him and ask about Canada, it is worth a shot

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8047177068&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

I am looking at the ebay set, I should have mine replaced all around with new strut mounts and bellows, the parts are not to expensive but labor will be $400 or so, ouch

Thanks RD,
I don't mind paying the $200, but I would like to make sure before going through with this task! I've
installed rear shocks before on a 190 & it's not
hard.(approx. 1-2hrs/both sides)

I was dealing with same symptoms, and it was rear shocks both were leaking, I bought 2 KYB Gas A Just for $91.00 tax included. Being installed as we chat. I had KYB on my Jetta and handled nice!. Installation is $ $80; my neighbor is a mechanic...what a nice guy!

Let me know what you think about the height, ride, etc once they are installed, I would like to get new shocks/struts sometime in the Spring or Summer.

Had the same symptoms on my car.
Threw out the orig. shocks and put in shocks of what seems (later) to be from a 202 modell. They were $75 I think for both. (they were second hand at my local mercedes yard)
In any case, the car feels hugely different. Much more stable, and flattens out bumps much faster and a bit harder, the way I like it.

Picked up my car last night, WOW! Night & Day! No Pun Intended (LOL). So far so good. Very tight hugs the road nice. I tested the car on a bumpy road with gradechanges and she felt very good. Then took her on a winding parkway with sharp turns, LOL very nice! A very firm feel, a harder ride than the OEM, but sharper in the turns before my shocks went bad. The height is nice will take pics later. I do not need struts now, but will purchase and install, want to feel the complete KYB effect! LOL Another note my neighbor the mechanic charged me $40 to install,(I gave him a extra $10 to get a six pack of RED STRIPE Beer). I know I could have done it, but do not have the time, and he could use the extra cash.

Thanks, Airdrew
My mechanic just ordered them for me & he’s
installing them next week. He’s charging me $180 for the
complete installation job. They were $70/each, so basically
the mechanic is making about $40 bucks for his time. I definitely
hope it makes a difference because my car drives & feels like
a boat!

Gas-A-just are probably the best shocks KYB makes. Stay away from their GR-2's[:0]
What's wrong with the GR-2's, I was looking at getting these from ebay

Hyper1 LOL I knew that feeling not any more...I had the day off and was driving my car like a Bat out of Hell...You will be very happy. The more I drive the more I am drooling! We do not have a choice regarding struts, KYB does not make Gas A Just struts, the G-R2 are good enough.

Thanks Airdrew,
Do you think the 16valve's rear KYB shocks are
stiffer? They have a different part# then the
regular 190's.

Ok, so I decided to finally replace my rear shocks. After all,
I’ve been bouncing around now for about 5 months. I decided to go with
KYB gas-a-just ca# kyb4548 (thanks, Airdrew). The installation was fairly
simple & wow what a difference. Before, a brief gust of wind would send
my car all over the road. Not to mention, the car felt like a boat.
This is something to consider replacing if your car has similar symptoms!
