Folks,

I will be performing a complete brake job on my ’04 SLK320 SE, 54K miles in a few weeks.

I am looking at Balo rotors for the rear. Are Balo rotors good quality? I have never used them before.

Thanks very much,

Zill.

Why would you want to change out the rear rotors at only 54K miles? Typically you should be able to get far more wear out of them than only 54K miles, any disc should last at least two sets of pads.
Unless they are scored, thermal cracked, or severely worn, why change them?

Balo are one of the alternate standard mfg. for Benz discs, so, yes they are good discs.

i did my brakes at 40k. i was able to have the front and rear rotors turned at a local auto store for 42$. its a much cheaper way to go unless something is wrong with the rotors. you may try pacificautrosports.com they quoted me 334$ for front and rear dilled rotors for my slk32

I know this is going to sound a bit privileged but I am changing out rotors, pads and brake lines because I can. I like to keep that new car feel. The car was new to me last August and I usually go through and change all fluids, belts and renew various interior trim items, etc. Brakes are next.

Thank,

Zill.

doesnt sound privledged at all. i might suggest akebono pads from rwi 149$ shipped. stainless lines from ebay 62$ shipped caliper paint 37$ shipped from g2
also if you want to save a few bucks the chrysler crossfire is the same. example tranny fluid at m/b 24$ qt. at the chrysler dealer 7$. same stuff! brake fluid is the same.
also i changed the caliper mount bolts and wear pad sensor bolts from torx to allen. very easy to stripp the torx bolts!

Karazy,

I got the Akebonos for the front. Next time I'll go with SS brake lines. I do paint the rotors and calipers but I use flat grey to match the color Benzie uses.

Thanks,

Zill.

Hi Zill,

IIRC the Akebonos are fine on the front, incurable squeal reported by some posters on the rear. Do a search to research rear pads, maybe Porterfields good?,... low dust, performance are factors with pads.
