I have a U1700 and I want to fit a rear linkage to it.

Atkinson Voss have tried to source me brackets for the rear arms, they can only supply the right bracket. I need brackets which will also hold the rear antiroll bar for the bed. Mercedes no longer make these.

So is it possible to weld onto the cast bracket I already have?

Or does anyone have one they will sell!

Thanks

If the bracket is cast iron, be extremely wary of a weldment added. It will almost surely fracture at the weld, even if done by a qualified welder. If the bracket is cast steel, I think you could get a decent weld, but this is beyond my expertise. There have been some threads/ posts here re: repairing transmission cases (or similar), and things have not gone well. You would be far better to go on the welding forums, if you don't have a really good welding shop nearby.

A thought: could you fabricate the entire bracket, out of steel? Should not have much difficulty with that, at least as far as being structurally sound and safe to use.

I am fitting a rear lift to a U1200, so probably totally different. But I would check with Neil at MEREX, the rear lift he sold me was made by the firm that made the originals for MB.

If he can't help you then the odds are you are going to need to fabricate your own.

The picture below shows the brackets that hold the power-lift shaft and the rear anti-sway bar, those are the middle brackets, the outboard ones were the one originally on the truck that had to be replaced for the power-lift/rear 3 point. The inboard ones are the new ones...VERY beefy!
