Rear lamps

1075 Views 9 Replies 1 Participant Last post by Guest (MBNZ)
I just bought my MB about 2 weeks ago and i already noticed that my rear right fog light is out. WTF! This is an outrage. What's happening to the quality of MB? This is a big let down. What are the part #'s for all the lamps including the front ones. The manual doesn't list the fog lamp sizes. Thanks!

Go to service or parts...

my right brakelight bulb when out after 14 months.

just go back to the dealer and have it replaced since it's under warranty. if the service dept. is busy, just go to parts. My guy in pleasanton, CA replaced it free. Took like 3 seconds.
Re: Go to service or parts...

Shouldn't it always be free? Its kinda ridiculous that MB hasn't changed those electronics yet. My friends were all laughing cause their Benz does it too. They are notorious for going out early or something.
There is no right rear fog light. By German law it is to be posted on the left side of the car only.

Incorrect, fog lights are permitted in Germany on either the left side only, or on both sides of the car. Whether or not it comes equipped with two bulbs is a different question as it's the manufacturer's decision.
If the stupid bulb (which might or might not even be there) outrages you and your friends so much, why don't you give the car back under the lemon law provision? Gimme a break, it's a bulb! Did you even have fog lately in San Diego...?
ATTENTION !!!!!!!!!!

ok let me clarify this problem for all of you. first of all when i got my 2002 C240 same thing happend to me. My left fog light worked and my right one didnt and i was pissed off. Now keep in mind my back lights worked fine so did the break lights, just the RIGHT BACK FOG light didnt work. Well after some research and going back to the dealer and checking out 4 bran new C240 they all dont have a right back fog light, its just not made for the car. So there is nothing wrong with your car and its not burnt out. I even called my uncle who lives in Germany and has one and he only has a left Rear fog light. Now as to why there is only 1 rear fog light im not sure, legaly or not legaly i have no idea, but all i can think of is that u dont want to blind the person behind u so if one works its enough for attention

Single rear fog light

It does make sense to only have one bright fog light, as it is easier to detect as such than two, which are just as bright as brake lights for which they could be mistaken. It is legal in Germany (as I pointed out before), in the US there isn't even a law requiring them at all, IIRC. Maybe it has to do with an effort to make more money by saving a socket and a bulb...
Re: ATTENTION !!!!!!!!!!

HEHE...I thank everyone for their support on this topic. Although i have to recall that somewhere in my mind, there were two at one point that were on. Oh well...thanks again! can i just have the right one installed?
The right rear fog lamp has been my only trip for repair to the dealer on my 2001 C240. The system is designed for only the left rear fog lamp to illuminate - the service manager demonstrated this to me on several different new models. The reason the right rear fog lamp has a bulb is it will be used if the left side is burned out. It is part of the Mercedes system to attempt to substitute a working bulb for an inoperative bulb or circuit. Hope this helps.
David
Re: ATTENTION !!!!!!!!!!

There is no such a right rear fog light. Only the left one has a fog light for the rear, so like every other mercedes on the market, it stands out more if it is only one, is is supposed to be one ONLY ONE IN THE BACK. Look at the audis look at the bmw they all have it the same. it stands out more, if you would have them both they would look like you have the brake lights on....
