At say 40mph or above as i let off the gas, my 300e immits a howling type noise. Any of you have this issue? My Chevy pickup makes a howl as well. My mechanic claims that after a rear diff change w/ Amsoil full synthetic, the noise/howl will practically go away? What have you experienced or done to correct this problem.[xx(][:0][xx(][:0][xx(][:0]

Check the diff. fluid level ! If it's low, add some oil and if it still makes noise it could be that the gears inside the diff. are gone ! By the way, did you check wheel bearings ! Definetly, a cheaper fix...

The diff in my 300TE always whined a bit but the MB stealership said that it was common and unlikely to fail for a very long time.We had the car from 60-130k miles and it just stayed the same.I cured the problem whilst driving by increasing the volume of the stereo.
