Which years/models rear bumper would be a suitable swap for a 1989 300se that was imported from Germany? I've located a few different options but don't know much about these cars...Any help would be great...Thanks...

All of the Euro rear bumpers will swap, they bolt directly to the body where the US versions have the shocks

Thanks for the reply. Would, for instance, the bumper from an '89 SEL work or a '88 SE work? I guess I'm wondering about different model/year compatibility? Thanks...

Yes, all of the rear bumpers will work. The US bumpers stick out farther from the car and are mounted with the shocks while Euro and the rest of the world are shorter (don't have the "diving board" look). One way to tell at a glance is the chrome is shorter on the US version. See the pics :wink Also there are "GenI" and "GenII" versions but I can't tell what the differences (cosmetic) are. The front bumpers are a whole 'nother ball game as the sedan bumpers are vastly different than the coupes and won't interchange except between another sedan. The major difference between the SE and SEL models are the rear doors being longer on the SEL, everything else will fit each other (oh, and different engines)

OH, while you're here, if you would, fill out your profile (UserCP up top) with the model you have and location

Yes, where are my manners :angel Welcome to The Machine lenwah. Don't worry about the newbiness, we ALL have been there. I "cut my teeth" on a 91 300SE and after 12 years (and lots of learning and repairs/maintenance) the "Coupe Bug" bit me and now I'm the proud owner (or does it own me) of a 91 560SEC. As MBL said, thanks for updating your stats and we DO love seeing others rides here (car porn :wink). To fill you in a bit more, basically the body/chassis are the same with the exception I mentioned about the rear doors and the GenI and GenII versions (mostly interior and exterior cosmetics but you CAN make most stuff fit), the major differences are the engines and I see that you have the 6, a very reliable and mostly bullet proof engine. There are lots of fine folks here that are very knowledgeable on these fine road machines willing to share what we've learned
