About 3 weeks ago I went to Harbor Freight for some jack stands and hydraulic jacks. When I came out there was some water pooling on the ground at the back of the engine. Since I hadn't formulated a plan to jack it up so I could safely crawl under it, I took it to my friendly MB Dealer. That was on a Thursday, Monday they called and told me they couldn't find a water leak, they pressure tested the system and it held just fine. However there was an oil leak at the oil level sensor. They indicated it would be very difficult to change,:eek (read $$$$$), as a matter of fact he said they may have to pull the engine. (read more $$$$$$$$).:eek As it turns out they didn't have to pull the engine and were able to fix it for several hundred dollars.:|| However, I got it home and safely in the garage but the next day I noticed the front bumper was scratched and had grease around the scratches. I cleaned the grease off and saw the extent of the damage and was not particularly happy.:crying I just got my bumper painted last year.

A couple of hours later I received an email from the dealer asking how they did on the service. I told them fine but my car sustained some damage to the front bumper. Probably not more than 30 minutes after I hit send my phone rang and one of the managers asked me to bring it in for a repaint. I took it in that Monday, there was no argument, nothing, he offered a loaner if I could wait until the end of the week but I declined the loaner as I didn't have anything scheduled. It's been almost two weeks and I'm supposed to get it back today. I've got my fingers crossed.

When I talked to them yesterday he said it has taken so long because one of the fog lights was broken and had to be ordered, but they would take care of the expense for that. I tried to explain that wasn't part of the damage they did and I'd be glad to pay for it but he insisted. I could be that it broke when they took the bumper off.

Except for that one weekend when I noticed the damage it's been gone for 3 weeks and I miss it. Anyway I think that is service above and beyond. (I do spend quite a bit at this dealership though.):smile

Yikes ! man you dodged a bullet on all that ! It's nice when an incident like this happens, they step up and do the right thing. Since you are not the type guy that looks and acts like you are running a scam, I'm sure that played into the deal. On the other subject, I can't even imagine what it would cost to yank a V12 to service a freaking oil sender :eek:eek. Glad yours worked out well for such a reasonable cost. Hopefully all is well and you are bombing around in the Texas sunshine later today ! :grin

Thanks. I just picked it up.:grin They did a great job on the bumper, now I just have to keep it like that.:|

No Texas sunshine today, I drove it back in the rain.:crying When I got in it everything was adjusted wrong. Seats, mirrors, the sliding door to the cup holders was open, the passengers window was open, and the radio wouldn't play. I got the seats and mirrors adjusted as best I could and took off. Closed the window so it wouldn't rain in. When I got home I played around with the radio and got it playing. Everything works it's just that they must have been bored and had to screw with every knob.:bash:

There's a lot to be said for working on these cars yourself. Oh to be 30 years younger.

As far as dings and scratches it has gotten so bad out here that many service writers will go around and note any dings before the car goes in - some photograph the car sides .

I know the Lexus dealer stopped offering free car washes because too many people were claiming that they scratched the cars

Sounds like your dealer went above and beyond unless they actually **knew** one of their techs did that and they were waiting to hear from you

The last thing they generally do is wash the car. The grease around the scratches wasn't smeared so I suspect it was done after they finished washing the car and I was waiting to take it. I noticed a flatbed wrecker in front of my car and he was unchaining a vehicle from it. I kind of think he slung the chains and booms around and hit my bumper with them but I had no real proof. I'm just glad to get it taken care of without argument.
