So first off, thanks!!!

my odometer doesn't register the proper mileage while driving... I bought a new speedo/odo off ebay but after I did realized that the 85 wagons have a unique speedo/odo because of the different differential ratio. So my question on the speedo/odo is: Can I rebuild my unit with parts from the good one I bought on ebay? or can I not because of the difference in part numbers? So if I cant rebuild it with the one I bought on ebay what are my options?

Another Question: my temp never gets close to the middle line on the temp gauge. Is this a problem? So it is running cold.

Next Question: Where can I find Info on removing the dash vents, 2/4 are busted on mine?

Next Quesiton: I am not getting air from the dash vents in general hot/or cold. What could be the source of this?

Next question: The heat output doesn't seem as powerful as it was in my 300cdt, IIRC I could make it so hot in the car I would sweat like I was in a steam room. Is it possible that there is something not diverting the right amount of coolant, or may this be related to the engine running cool?

Thats all for now any help, links would be greatly appreciated.

Your temp should between 80 and 90 C, cooler and you need a new t'stat. That will hinder the heat.

I've got a random question too:

Can I replace the struts in the 1981 300TD Wagon self-leveling system with a shock from another w123 model? Or any other shocks?
No, the replacement should come from another donor wagon.

Diesel Giant has an easy to follow write up on repairing the odometer. What is happeneing to you is quite common.

The '85 w123, coupe, sedan, wagon and w126 300SD all have the 2.88 rear diff.

Next Question: Where can I find Info on removing the dash vents, 2/4 are busted on mine?
The A/C vents are easier than they may seem, but you must be careful or you WILL break the retaining clips, which you might not care about if your vents are already busted.

You will need to come at the vents from below. Remove lower dash panels. Reach up and pull the duct tubing from the vent. Now, the tricky part: The vent is essentially two pieces that hold each other in the dash when they are clipped together. To remove, with one hand from the outside of the dash prevent the vent from spinning by holding your fingers between the vent spaces. Use your other hand ot reach behind the dash, grab hold of the vent, and the TURN (in either direction) not even a 1/4 turn to release the clips, then pull the interior piece off.

DO NOT FORCE the interior piece off. If you have release the clips properly, the pieces will come apart from each other with ease.

Also, if it is a center vent it is harder to reach, but you can get to it by removing climate control system..
