My W140 doesnt have this fitted.

I understand there is a sensor mounted by rear view the mirror. Can anyone tell me how the rain sensor is operated and how it works? I am looking to retrofit this option to my car.

Thanks in advance

how it works...

It should say in the owner's manual...but, from memory... When you have the wipers in the intermittent wipe position (first position), the frequency of wiping will vary with the amount of rain rather than time elapsed.

I think it's a infra-red system.

You have to know little details.

You'll must have a perfectly clean windscreen.
It better works with "standard" rain than with fine drizzle making the system too sensitive and function with an almost dry windscreen [:(]
And this system never use the second speed as do the P.S.A. system. (My 140 is a '96 300 TD.)

I didn't know it was possible to retrofit this option. [:0]
