I have a 1995 S500 Mercedes in which the word "code" appears when I switch on the radio/stereo. I think I found the code number in my file, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Do I turn engine on and punch in the numbers of the code? Then what do I do? I'm so confused that I'll appreciate any help from you on this.

Oh, I'm so embarrassed. The radio/stereo is in my 2001 E430. My questions, however, remain the same. Help.

That is a prompt for you to enter the radio code.

Radio must have lost DC input power somehow; battery or radio disconnection, etc.

If you have original documentation in the fat wallet with the owners manual and other books, it contained a credit card sized card with that code on it.

If you don't have that, then you have to cross-ref from VIN or radio S/N.

If you happen to have a service work order from a MB dealer, you may find the code on that work order.

i do not have original stereo in my car any more. But i did have it. You just simply enter 4 digits (engine or contact on) and that is it. if digits are correct then stereo will do the rest which means it will start to work. If I am wrong someone will correct me, but to the best of my knowledge that's it.

Question (another one): I found a little note pad on which I had written a stereo code, but it has five numbers and does nothing when I try it in the '01 E430; could that code be for the original radio in my '95 S500? This is getting so confusing.

Finally, I've got the code for my '01 E430 radio/stereo. So how do I do this? I entered the code and nothing happened. What am I missing? I tried it about six times, same result. Now, the first code number is flashing and the others are not. What's going on and how do I get out of this? Thanks.

I seem to recall that after entering the 5 digit code at the prompt, you then push the On button.

If that doesn't work, then I'll have to go out an look at that radio manual.

DId that, but it didn't work. The first number of the code continues to flash, but the other numbers do not.?????????????????

OK, looked at manual and it isn't as simple as I recalled. It's slightly trickier kind of like resetting the FSS.

Now you know the correct code for the radio. Best to write it in the Owners Manual since theft of the radio is no longer a reasonable concern.
