Hi, I recently replaced my ignition tumbler. Now I noticed when I turn the car off and remove the key. The radio does not turn off. Unless I power it off manually. Could this be a faulty ignition tumbler. Or a problem with the original Becker radio. Or something else,
TIA Dave

Well, it could be either. The radio does have a switched 12v in and a full time 12v in (the full time lets the presets and such stay saved) - but if it started at the time you replaced the tumbler it is much more likely to be a problem with the switch. You could pull the radio and figure out which is the switched 12v wire and verify that it does not turn off with a volt meter. I'm sure it won't. You're sure all other accessories turn off completely also? Window switches stop working and such?

If the issue coincided with the replacement of your ignition tumbler, I suspect that a wire that was supposed to be on the key controlled side of the circuit got connected to a terminal on the ignition switch that is constantly powered. (ie, the installer messed up)

Good point. If other accessories that are supposed to only work when the key is on work when the ignition is switched off then that's all the proof you need! And don't let them charge you to correct their mistake 😁

Ok with no key in the ignition. I can turn the radio on and the antenna will go up. Nothing else works. I installed the tumbler. I had a hard time removing the old tumbler. Until I purchased the proper pin. It is a possibility that a piece of the wrong sized pin might have broke off. But I figured that would have been stuck in the old tumbler. I can make sure I turn off radio. But it's going to annoy me. Because that is not how it is supposed to work. Thanks for your assistance

That would annoy me, too. But sometimes you have to pick your battles or go nuts, broke, or both 😉

When you say you replaced the tumbler, do you mean just the lock cylinder or did you actually pull the ignition switch off of the back of the steering lock assembly. Replacing the lock cylinder alone would not have any effect on this. Pulling the wiring harness off the back of the steering wheel lock and then removing the ignition switch could possibly cause problems but its hard for me to imagine a scenario of how. Possibly just disturbing the wires.

Roncallo I made it a lot more difficult then it actually is. I tried all the wrong size pins to remove it. I pulled the instrument cluster to figure why it wouldn't come out. Then I purchased the tool from Mercedes source. And it came right out. But I was kind of rough on it. And I might have broke part of the wrong size pin. Trying to remove the tumbler. The right tool for the job makes a world of difference.

I'd bet more on a shorted wire on the back side if you had pulled the cluster to manhandle it from the back :)
