What are the radio keys? Tools used to remove the radio, if so, are these easy to find, or are you referring to something else? The radio light which illuminates the stations, etc. is out. Is this a DIY job, or something I need to get fixed at a shop?
Meant to say "stereo keys."What are the radio keys? Tools used to remove the radio, if so, are these easy to find, or are you referring to something else?
Thanks, glad to know that this is DIY.
Radio keys come in a set of 2 they are what look like flat keys they are applicable when you insert them to the two rectangular holes usually on the bottom right and left corners of the unit.Meant to say "stereo keys."
I've never pulled a radio from a Mercedes, so any pointers would be appreciated, mine is a 00 E430 original radio.
Brandon671, Many thanks for this info., are they something I can get at any auto parts store, or is this a dealer only part, and do these "keys," come in different sizes based on the model of radio? Much appreciated since pulling a radio is new to me.Radio keys come in a set of 2 they are what look like flat keys they are applicable when you insert them to the two rectangular holes usually on the bottom right and left corners of the unit.
MERCEDES BENZ CD RADIO STEREO REMOVAL INSTALL TOOL KEY - eBay (item 330498161408 end time Dec-18-10 11:34:11 PST)I have had only moderate success on ebay. Can you tell me what search criteria you used on ebay to find them?
Welcome to supply and demand also ebay/paypal doesnt take the percentage off the shipping just the cost of the item, I consider it the cost of not having to pay $XX amount to a mechanic and learning something newMany thanks for the info on ebay. Just purchased the stereo keys, but it kills me that they just can't put these in an envelope and mail them for 47 cents instead of $3.00.
The bulbs are "special" I had to goto my indie to buy it after I checked the local auto parts. The indie graced me with the charge of only 3 dollarsYes, supply and demand are the major ingredients of our economy. Finder fees (always welcome), are what grease the inside of our pockets to allow the money to find its way to the bottom. As for the bulb, until I've removed the radio, (my fear is it's a sealed unit) not sure how readily available these are, or if the problem is something other than the bulb. Could be bed bugs from a previous owner that removed the bulb to invade my upholstery. More to come on this saga as it unfolds.
