I just bought a 2010 GLK 350 with the multimedia package. Everthing is fine so far but I have not been able to find a way to turn the radio or CD off while using the navigation system. I can mute it by pressing the mute button but not physically off. I can also turn the whole system off by pressing the big button that turns off both the navigation and the audio systems, but not just the audio.

Could anyone help me?

Thanks.

Not sure why you need to turn off the radio or CD because their audio turns low when the NAV starts "talking". If you need to hear the NAV louder, when it starts talking, turn the volume higher; if you didn't catch it the first time, press RPT so it will repeat the NAV instructions and you can turn the volume louder. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Sometimes I just don't like to listen to music while I am driving, but I do like to have the navigation on. Also, if I just mute the CD, would it still be spinning or playing in the background even though I cannot hear it? Would it cause wear-and-tear just the same as playing?

This has been an ongoing discussion for late model Mercedes with COMAND. There is no way to turn an audio source off when using navigation. The best you can do is mute which some find acceptable and others don't. Please do a general search and you will find various posts. I would have though Mercedes would have changed that by now, but apparently not.

Thanks, at least now I don't have to keep looking through the two manuals, thinking that I might have missed reading something here or there. I guess I just have to live with the music on or mute.

The two-manual is another odd thing, because for the same instrument, some instructions are given in one and others in the other.

use voice command and say "audio off" navigation (voice directions) will still work in this mode. Use "radio or CD" to turn either back on

Actually recently I did find the "Audio off" menu from the W221 Comand menu. Could be that the 204 Comand does not have it. But I cannot see why audio mute would be different for the driver from audio off because the head unit will not turn off anyway (not even the minor FM receiver part within that unit if you turned "radio off").

I understand if someone wants silence in the car except allowing navigation announcements. Why is it such a big issue to press a button that reads "mute" instead of pressing a button that reads "audio off" when the "audio off" button actually does not, and is not expected to turn audio off completely (not for navi or phone etc.).

The two manuals approach is because Comand is not standard on a 204. The 221 manual has Comand included. MB wants to avoid confusion (perhaps save environment and their money) by excluding info that is not relevant for the particular car. I know a lot of options are described in the main manual but those only take a few lines.

I looked for the same thing. Without success as you also found out.
The way I skinned that cat was to push the "SAT" button. Since I don't subscribe to satellite programs - Silence :D:D

I'm curious about this, can you explain why don't you use the mute button at your steering wheel instead? Should be easier to reach, or is there a difference in the behaviour you are after (that I have not figured out)?
