hello everyone,

Today, I decided to flush the radiator.

After draining the old coolant, closing off the drain plug at the bottom and reconnecting the top hose the radiator, I replenished with new coolant.

The temperature is correct with reading at about 82C, the heater is blowing hot but there's a cold patch at the bottom of the radiator. The top half is hot. Also, the radiator lamp is constantly on. This is rather troubling.

Admittedly, before this I never touched the lower half of the radiator. But at the same, time the radiator lamp has never come on while engine running.

I have taken it for a driver for about 15 min but no difference.

The rubber hoses to and from the radiator is hot.

I know I'm close but still can't figure how to fix this. Before this procedure, the radiator lamp in the dash has never turned while engine running.

I believe there's a air lock in the radiator.

Any ideas to clear the air lock is appreciated.

regards,

Anyway, this afternoon I stirred as much as I could the expansion tank. Now the coolant level sensor seems to be working and the lamp has gone off. Perhaps due to age.

As for the cold patch at the bottom, I checked and I found it warm to the touch at the bottom. The top is still hot like earlier.

I shall keep monitoring it.

I believe the rad dash light is only for coolant level. Have you checked that the sensor is still working correctly? The floater may have gotten stuck down when you drained the coolant.

hi PN187,

Thanks for your comment. I believe it might have been the floater getting stuck. I did swish the coolant in the expansion tank with a cable tie and that seem to unstuck it.

As for that seemingly cold patch on the radiator, my best guess is that it's also the farthest from the inlet to the radiator. That should mean it should also be the coldest ie farthest = coldest.

I shall be check other parts of the rad too.

cheers
