I was just curious if anyone ever ran high octane racing fuel (104+) or used a high octane additive in their SLK. Since the engine is supposed to adapt to the octane of the fuel wouldn't this make the car perform much better on track days ar any other day you wanted the most performance?

I used racing fuel in the SLK last year when I went to the drag strip. My best run of the day was the first run before I added the racing fuel. Part of that is due to detrioting track conditions. The other reason is that the ECU will only adapt within a certain range. A stock car just will not take advantage of the higher octane. If you are running an ECU & Pulley you see an improvement (slight) by running a couple of points higher than 93. If you search for a posting by Rage2 (who has not been around for a long time) you will see some testing he did.

Old topic.

We reviewed this and determined that you would have to take the car in to have the ECM re set for the octane you want to use.

Drawback is your locked into that octane until you go and have it changed back.
