Hello folks, searched hi and low to find info on the following wheel design, according to datacard appear to be a factory extra.

R57 LIGHT ALLOY WHEEL 5-SPOKE DESIGN 19" ALL-ROUND

I thought the finish maybe just plastic trims on steel but possibly not, either way the chrome plastic finish is starting to peel quite badly in places - just pondering the best solution (this is only a run about for time being).

Thanks,

Are you sure you're talking about B-Class W245?
There was never a 19" factory option, as far as I'm aware.
There's a Brabus 19" running rather skinny 215/35 tyres, but that's it.

Here's an excerpt from the official brochure - largest one is 18" (two actually).

Never seen that kind of damage on a wheel before. Not an easy repair..

Place these pics and any questions in this forum and see what help you get.

...Good luck..!!..

Never seen or heard of a 19" on a W245 (or W169 ... hmm ...)

It's the last one on page 4 (or 11 in the actual brochure), but it shows it as 17" ...

Finish is a chrome-plated type, that explains the peeling.

If these are indeed 19" you could swap them for re-furbished 17" or 18" and probably cover a set of new tyres too ;)
Check firstaidwheels - they did mine over 3 years ago and they still look pretty good:

Is it me, or does my 18" wheel look bigger?
The brake disc (aka rotor) is the same size.

Could it (the 19" bit) be an incorrectly resolved code from a VIN decoder?

Can you take a pic of the tyre markings?
I'm intrigued ;)

I just tried to take a few pics of tyre size, its dark so missed the lettering as quite small.

The gap between tyre and wheel arch is very small, not enough room to clean the arch (yours looks more spacious) - the sport package as listed, maybe this type/size wheel were included as an option?

Very interesting!
I too have sport suspension (952) on 18" AMG wheels, but mine is an A-Class coupé A200, plus I now fitted taller springs (village life is lovely, but roads are atrocious). My winter alloys are actually 16" - car looks like an ATV on them ... I actually like it, to my surprise.

I could be wrong but these look and feel like trims,i.e they sit on top of actual wheel - underneath the chrome it's plastic?.

My last car was a 1996 S124 which was old skool, this takes a bit of getting used to (can't believe you have to take engine out to swap the clutch o_O )

If you think 245's engine bay is tight, you should see 169: everything is the same, other than the body shell, which is smaller! I'm surprised they didn't make it engine out job to change oil!
Tried to fit top quality LED bulbs for full beam yesterday (done dipped ones almost two years ago), gave up as couldn't be bothered removing washer bottle or growing 10" fingers. Fitted OSRAM Cool Blue BOOST 80W instead ... not the same, but will do till summertime.

No, it's chrome plating on a light alloy (which does look like plastic without any coating on).

There are a few trusted indies - whereabouts are you?
I do use MB for Service Care Plan - mostly because it makes financial sense, when large items are coming due in the near future, e.g. ATF, sparks, fuel filter, etc, but for everything else - either DIY (brake pads recently for the first time ever! LOL) or indie.

I tend to look out for other jobs while doing another, for example oil change scoping out where the gearbox drain plugs are along with clutch housing. Hopefully clutch should be okay for a while yet although gearbox oil will be done once weather warms up a bit.

Better photos of wheels, tbh its only really one that looks ropey - its probably not worth a proper wheel refurb, just needs tidying up - spent some time with eight hole alloys rubbing down and prepping before using several layers of acrylic paint, came out really well and lasted better than a set professionally done.

Here's my old barge , not a great picture of wheels but they were something like 5/6 years old.
