I hope to get some help and pass along my experience. I have a 2006 R250 V6 with 57K miles on the car. Just yesterday the car was driving down the road and then suddenly acted like it was not in gear. The engine would rev-up but no power was going to the wheels. No noise was heard when this happened. No error messages were on the dash display. I towed it to the dealer and they said the front pump went out and the torque converter needs to be replaced because it most likely is bad also.

Is this a common problem to have the front pump go out?
Can the front pump take out only the torgue converter or is there other things that I should have the dealer check?
What could cause the front pump to go out?

Thanks,

Tony

'06 R350 transmission problems

Just an update on my R350 that had the front transmission pump fail.

I had the car fixed. It needed a new torque converter, front pump, and bell housing. I was told MB does not have new torque converts to put onto the car they only sell re-manufactured torque converters.

After about 3 weeks of driving the car after the new front pump, the car got stuck in third gear and would not shift up or down. After restarting the car it returned to shifting correctly. Now 6 weeks from the repair it would not shift from 1st gear. After restarting the car it shifted correctly.

I am returning to the dealer to have them fix the problem. based on other posts it seems the valve body needs to be replaced. I will find out.

History of the car:
12000 miles B1 band replaced for rough shifting.
57000 miles front pump went out on transmission and destroyed the torque converter
59000 miles the car intermittently will not shift from 3rd gear and 1-2.

I am very disappointed with the quality of the R350.

It is a valve body/control unit problem and is common on these cars.
