2004 SL55 AMG with Keyless Go

This is what I get for doing preventative maintenance...
Here's the YouTube link:

I was having issues getting out of park so I bought the brake switch and the metal replacement peice for the shifter box. Turns out it was definitely the brake switch as I could not hear the solenoid activate with for on brake and after replacement the activation is consistent and actually sounds more robust.

I hate getting stuck so I decided to do the shifter box alongside a head unit replacement since I'd already have things apart.

I pulled the gearbox unit and replaced the plastic part with the aluminum one before I had an issue. After reassembly I found the car never thinks it's in park when it is.

The safety mechanical cable (one with the push pin at the end located in the lower front of the box) is hooked up properly to the front of the shifter box so that it allows successful removal of the key after turning off the car. However as soon as key is removed the red "Gear Selector to P!" appears.

Coinciding with this, my pushbutton start doesn't work (but the door locks do work with the key). I suspect this is because electronically the car believes it isn't in park so therefore won't allow the push button start to crank engine.

FIY:

1- I replaced my command head unit at the same time while doing the shifter box.
2- There is a small plug (3 prong) that comes off the wires from the large plug on the top front left of the shifter computer box that I cannot remember where and if it goes anywhere.
3- there's a small wire to wire connection that comes off the plug from the front right side of the shifter box that got a little pinched

Any suggestions would be welcomed. I'm banging my head against a wall here!

Ok my dumb ass plugged the white connector that should be plugged into the lowest receptor into the second one from the top leaving the black plug in question with no where to go.

Played the game of perfection and weaseled the white plug back into the lowest receptor and now the black plug question has a home. All working now.

Thanks anyway to the forum!

I get a great amount of info from the many contributors here!
