I'm trying to do a focus group study to find out if there is significant interest in a cosmetic conversion from the current R129 to the upcoming R230. The conversion would include front and rear treatment entirely in carbon fiber. Stock headlamps and tail-lamps would be used. Any and all comments are appreciated. Thanks!
Such a conversion will only reduce the value of the car. Seriously doubt if ....

you can even re-coup the cost of such a conversion. Bad idea which will only sell to wannabes.

I recently caught the the tail end of a German language TV program on such a conversion. It seemed to be highly professional operation and it also looked much better than I would have thought. Car had complete front/rear from new SL. Since I don't speak German this is all the info I can offer. So it seems someone in Germany is already doing this. Whether it's a good thing to do is another question...

Instead of ruining the beautiful look of the 129 (which I prefer over the new one)... why not do a conversion on volkswagen or mustang? (Isn't that the traditional cars to use for conversion?)

This is the company that makes it!

This is the company that makes the conversion, but personaly, I prefer my car like it is, Sincerely, the only thing that I am interested of the R230 class is the solid roof, but the elegance and exclusivity of 129 is out of discussion, the other day, I have a confusion between a new CL and an new Sl, and I'm sorry, but the new SL is very similar to another MB of less cathegory. I vote for the 129's exclusivity!

By the way, if anybody is interested check the conversion here:

R129 to R230 Conversion.

Thanks for providing the link Chinche. I too have a hard time sometime distinguishing the New SL with the New CLK and CL.
I don't know, is it me or is the front end a little bit off. Personally I wouldn't mind the conversion. I definitely like the rear conversion, looks great. Imagine a R129 Front with A R230 Rear, Sweet.
The one reason why I bought the SL in the first place is that because it was rare in the area I lived in. Everybody knows that I got the only Viper, and 911 carrera in town. Then I bought silvia to add to my Rare and UNIQUE car collection. Ever since the R230 came out the price of the R129 dropped dramatically, now every where I go it seems like everybody has one. [:(!]How much do you think a conversion like this will go for 22-23 thousand (Bacially the same price for the new S to CL front end conversion from lorinser.)?

It costs

I think that is cheaper that you believe, This conversion costs 12-13000 USD.
Oh! just a question Quicksilver, Silvia is a name invented for you, or is the name for the SL in Cage's film 60 seconds.
And if is not this name in the movie, anybody knows what is this name?

Hey Quicksilver, I found the list of 60 seconds, but the name of the SL 129 is Ellen.

Name

No actually the R129 in the movie had no name. The car that Cage named was a 1966 (?)Shelby GT-350 fastback coupe. Silvia is the name /license plate for my custom Radiant silver(chameleon Silver) R129, It was originally stock metallic silver.

I love it

I really like the conversion, i think it looks great and its well worth the 10 to 15k. But the r129 is definetly a classic in my eyes and i would love to keep it the way it is. If i had two of them, then i would consider it for one.

The conversion looks strange. I don't know why anyone would do this.

R230s had just been introduced when those awful conversion kits came on to the market, these days a used R230 would cost less than the kit!

R129 to SLS anyone :D

I'm joining the others - I like the R129 just as it is. Why make it into something it isn't and never will be?

And for just another few thousand you could get a used R230.
