I just replaced (upgraded) the struts in my 500SL and since the struts are fine and the ones in my 400E are somewhat soft I thought I would replace them with the old ones from the 500SL. They sure look like they'll fit, just 1/2" or so short on the piston extension.
Anybody know if there is any reason why they won't work in the 400E?

Different setup; the 500E however shares few components.

I think the 129 uses a different strut mount. I have SL500 steering knuckles on my wagon, so I do know the bottom strut mounts are the same.

the R129 does have a different strut mount but the top of the strut is the same on the 124 and 129 struts.

Perhaps they're similar to the difference between Bilstein Sports and standards struts
