thanks D. , and plenty. Well. I had a 1965 Jag 3.8 S Super with knock -offs; never forgot how nice they looked. What in particular about them turns you off, out of curiosity? Yeah, they must be a b**** to clean. A couple or three grand is pricey too, for sure.

Al,

Indeed each has their own style/likes and such, what fun would it be if we all like the same? However, in my personal opinion, wire wheels do not fit the style of R129 in any way.

They do look terrific on many classic cars, old Jags indeed (XKE in particular), Daytona spyders, many other British cars of that era, but not R129, not even R107, just my $0.02

D

Thanks D. I will try to look up some galleries for photos of a wired R129. . I think Dayton wire wheel gallery had one; I'll have to look twice, maybe more. Frankly, I had a little nagging thought that their "delicacy" does not fit this robust German iron. Anyway, have to sort out the air suspension first. . Replaced all 4 nitrogen bladders/ bled out the system...and still the dash light comes on periodically, at the same frequency (not getting worse). It handles/corners as if it were performing at 100%..... except for that nagging light...
Adios Leonardo.
Regards,
Dr. D.

That is precisely it! You have perfectly summed it up! R129 always felt to me a bold and robust, I have a German co-worker who calls these SL's "The Machine"... And the "delicacy" of a classic wire wheels I believe are better matched with those Jaguars. But than again, my inspiration for Mercedes cars were Brabus, Mosselman and the early RENNtech, so you can imagine when I'm rather "reluctant" to suggest wire on R129...

As for your suspension, I can see how that light can be annoying, specially if you know it's performing well! I'm sure you will sort it out

D

Chances are that one (or more) of the three body sensors have expired. Hook the car up to diagnostics and you will find out which.

If ADS is throwing the (little shock absorber) light, then you still aren't experiencing the best that ADS has to offer.

I had a 1963 XK-E with chrome wire wheels in the early 1970s and, while they looked good and the knock-off hubs were convenient, broken spokes and proper balancing by spoke adjustment were a PITA. IMHO, looking at the photos of the gray R129, they don't seem to go well with these cars as they seem too retro. They look best on older British roadsters and sport cars.
