Oe soft top material was German sonnenland material, has a dobby backing. Stayfast material is cheap and good quality but with cotton backing. Twillfast(Sonnendeck) is priced in between German and stay fast And is actually stayfast but with the German dobby backing.

if I were you I’d only buy a top from German Auto Tops. They make cheapest reputable tops in all 3 materials and they can get you a custom color. Just email them for swatches: [email protected]

cheap tops from anywhere are a no no because potential bad fitment/ bad window stitching and labor for top replacement is serious money

Twillfast is stayfast with the German sonnenland dobby backing(the dashes pattern on the black parts of the rear inside of the top). The dobby backing pattern is hardly ever going to be noticed so not really necessary.

If you're going to have it installed ask the installer about the brand they prefer, Most installers in my town want the GAHH

Tobi Olakunie,
Are you sure?. I always thought Stayfast was a smoother OUTSIDE fabric material with a richer outside color. Germanautotops.com offer all, like a Stayfast top, Twillfast top and German canvas top. I think a Stayfast top is not like a Twillfast top especially the outer fabric. As I am about to purchased a new top for my 92 SL from Germanautotops.com and my choice would have been a Twillfast soft top and if what you say is true, then I'll have to change my thinking and order the German canvas top.

I read somewhere twillfast and stayfast have the same outside but can’t remember where. I know absolutely that stayfast hast a cotton plain backing while twillfast has the dobby backing from the German canvas.

i wouldn’t waste money on the German. Stay fast or twill are your best cost effective options depending on how much the dobby backing matters to you
