I got some oil on a local black friday deal. Never used this before and was wondering if it is good for my old car.

I got a couple of jugs of Mobil-1 full synthetic 0W-40 "European Car Formula" oil. The jugs say it is MB 229.3 and 229.5 approved. API SN no friction modifiers.

My car is an old 1995 C280 with 170K. I have always used conventional non-synthetic 10W-40 oils. No leaks, it's not burning any oil, no problems. Should I try this new oil or return it? Any concerns?

That oil you bought is all I use in my Mercedes cars. It's what they recommend, so I use it. Never any oil issues. Can I ask what you paid for the jug? I bought a jug tonight and it was $35.00 at Auto Zone. In the past I have paid about $22--25.00 for a jug at either Wal-Mart or Amazon.

Should be fine. That's all I use on our 4 MBZs. It is expensive so I only buy it at WalMart for low $20s for 5 qts. COSTCO occasionally has the 6 pack of 1 qt bottles for mid $20s.

Paid close to 30. I think my final price will be a little less than $15 after the mail in rebates. Haven't read all the fine print yet.

Does anyone know what MB 229.3 and 229.5 specs are? I don't know what the specs were for my old car.
