Hey members

really appreciate your advice here.. I have a 2007 C230 that's coming up due for Service B. I called the dealer today and they informed the cost would be $500.

This sounds crazy to me. My question is:
1. do I HAVE to take my car to the dealer for this service?

2. If I find a certified mechanic can I take it there? If I did go to an independent repair shop, would my manufacturer's warranty be voided?

3. What do they do at Service B, is there anything else I would need to have done outside of this until my next service?

4. If I can take to an independent mechanic/repair shop, what questions should I ask to ensure he is MB certified and ensure all is in keeping with manufacturer requirements?

I'm a total novice here guys. Thanks for the advice.

Hi!

I just wanted to comment on the service price - I just had a B service done on my C200CDI in Norway, 2008 model. It cost me apprx. USD 1300.00.

There has been a few threads on this topic, but I just had mine done on Friday and it was $399 USD plus tax. they did give me a credit for not having my tires rotated since they are staggered but it was only $30. From my understanding they do the same thing as the service A except they change the cabin filter, flush the brakes, and my dealership also changes the wiper blades, and details the inside and outside. the wipers were something no other dealership included but I think the inside out cleaning most dealerships do everytime you bring your car in for service. You can search for service B and find some other threads on this, it is my understanding that you can do it yourself or have a mechanic do it just as long as its done and documented. I have read that some dealers will charge you at lease turn in (assuming yours is a lease) for not having one of the services done.
