I have the opportunity to purchase an 83 500SL Euro for a reasonable price,(145K, fresh paint, both tops, clean under carriage), for $5700.00. The car runs extremely well, and has both tops. Is the timing chain an issue, or does the larger displacement engine have the double row timing chain? Are these engines fairly bullet proof?

I like the Euro version style better than the US version, it is definitely sportier. I currently own a 1986 BMW 635Csi 5 speed that I thouroughly enjoy driving, I don't think I can part with her. This vehicle would be a great addition to the BMW. I do all of my own maintenance and troubleshooting.

Any personal/professional experiences with this model will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

Questions concerning 1983 500SL Euro version

I have an 85 and no problem yet with Timing chain @ 118K. Have your mechanic check the guides and tension regularly, at least once a year is what he reccomends.

Car is a dream to drive.
