Question about tire and wheel size?

I want to change my wheels but I don't have a lot knowledge about wheel and tire sizes.

My three options for wheels are
17x7.5--17x8.5--18x8.5

1-Can I put 18x8.5 wheels on 190?? Is it possible??
2-What size tires should I get if I prefer 18x8.5???
3-What size tires should I get if I prefer 17x7.5???

What size tyres are you planning on getting?

I had 8x17" wheels on my stock height 190E and 215/45's were ok on the rear but rubbed like crazy on the front and I had to go down to a 215/40 on the front which looked terrible with stock suspension plus 8" rims with 215 tyres leaves a big exposed rim on the wheel

When I lowered the car I had to put 7.5x17" wheels on with 215/40's all round and it still rubs occasionally on the front

You can put 18's on a 190 but you have to watch the width, offset and tyre size, you might still have to do arch mods depending on your set-up

Hope this helps

Thanks for advises
I have two more questions..
What if I put 225/40/17" tires or 235/40/17" tires with 17x8.5 wheels.
Will I have any problem if I put 235???

Also, Which is better in your opinion
40 front--45 rear or 40 front--40 rear???
Try Tire Rack for information on tire sizes.......

They have a section on plus sizeing tires that has the exact answers that you are looking for.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/general/plusone.htm

There is also a lot of information on selecting the type and make/model of tire you might want to choose.
It doesn't matter if you live in the U.S. or not, they seem veryy willing to help anyone in need by e-mail.
for the front 225 is as wide as you can go. i know this from personal experience. 235 in the rear is ok as long as you dont have a heavy load.
I would run 205/40s up front and 215/40s in the rear.
how streached would a 205/215 40 be on a 17 7.5 rim
I have been looking for a 225 40 17 but there is only one tire i can find in that size and it says it is a summer tire. it is the nito 555
