Perhaps it's a stupid question, but the wire into the top of the thermostat is quite loose, ie it pulls out easily. I'm sure its not meant to but I'm worried about the little plastic clip breaking apart (like all the others) if I try to open it up to inspect it. There is a part number on it 011 545 85 28. Does it matter? Maybe I should just glue it in place?

I am pretty sure the wire belongs to be fixed into the temp sw/sensor connector.

You need new contact pin or complete new connector with contact pin and plastic housing. Another option is find a similar connector with piece of wire and solder it with your loose wire.

Best regards

Thanks yka. The pin isn't broken (see blurry picture) so I'll have to risk pulling the plastic plug apart- maybe just some soldering needed.

Thermostat sensor plug

You should be able to open it and reattach the wire. Let me know if it breaks. I have an extra.
Thanks for your kind offer Rowdie but I got lucky- the four little plastic clips didn't break and I can see where the solder has broken off.

When I looked at the one on the '84 380 I figured you would not have a problem.
That and they only break when you don't have another available.
