There are brake sensors for the front brakes, but not a similar sensor for the rear. Is there a sensor for the rear that warns you that the rear pads need replacement? Does it activate the dash lights as well?

I have a 2003 ML 500 and recently had my dash light come on indicating pads and rotors needed to be replaced. It was for the rear. So the answer is yes, there are rear sensors and they do activate the dash lights. :)

Follow up. The ML has the same brake sensors in the rear as the front. My replacement pads came with sensors for the front, but not the rear (go figure).

The sensors are $17 from the dealer (per pair?). The sensor is just a 3 inch wire that sticks into the brake pad and has a waterproof connector on the other end... (value ~$1 at most with connector).

When you replace your pads, don't forget to pull the clip-on antisqueal shim from the old pad and clip it onto the new. You'll regret it loudly if you do!
