My 350 was manufactured during Dec 04, which i guess is not a good time for quality in any factory. Have noticed 3 seperate areas of small contaminant which appear to be the size of a grain of sand under the paint and clear coat.
Has anyone else had any similar issues ??

The dealers taking a look at it this afternoon and i will keep you updated on their response.

Let us know where you are from by completing the profile. Sometimes the answer depends on the exact variant of the car you get, which depends on location.

Roadsta,

Thanks for your interest, the car and i are both in the UK.

Do Benz make these cars in differing locations ??

Say hello to my Bro in Brisabane..
Ben,

Quite a number of UK-based slk fans on this forum.

I hope you have decent parking for your car. Lived in London for three years in the mid-90s, and I was always amazed to see really expensive cars left out on the street, exposed to the (freakin awful) weather, dirt, bad parkers, and vandals.

If you want you can put your location in by completing the profile/preferences on the top right of the screen.

cheers

I am in East London and have not had much joy getting a garage nearby which raises exactly that question, will my baby be safe on the street. If I cant park outside my house, often the case if I come back late, it will be a worry.

Joyfulheart,

Have you bought or are you buying ?? since you may wish to consider how you insure the car.
You will have to fully understand the fine print in the policy and how you can best protect your investment.
Regarding the dirt and other issues kindly raised by Roadsta, a good retro paint protection process is a must if it is left outdoors.

I will be a proud owner on March 4th, so I am now tring to get a nearby garage...I can insure it for being on the road but there will be an excess which means any bad parkers or local vandals will be damaging it at my expense

Just a thought since i had some good advice with the "Tracker versus no Tracker" argument and hypothetically speaking, based on the car being stolen would not really want it returning, but would want a new replacement. The invoice gap insurance would take care of this shortfall, since the insurer would only give you the Glass's book value.

Two points : firstly the paint work, Mercedes now and again do seem to produce a completely crap one. One of my brothers new Mercs came with absolutley shat paintwork and he refused to take delivery of it(he got to drive the car until they got him a decent one)also the SLK demo at my local dealer had paintwork like the surface of the moon and when I metioned it to them I could not get a straight answer as to why[:I]

Secondly the gap insurance, don't bother get yourself a decent new for old policy - it may be a few quid dearer but at least the 1st years motoring is worry & hassle free(2 lots of insurance are you mad - do you likeforms/paper work).

My paintjob is just fine on the 55 too.

The front spoiler seems like it should need a second layet tho', I found two extremely small stone chips on it. A bit of a bummer, but guess it came from driving too fast on the highway :\

Thanks SLK SA,

Did you keep any pictures of the problem ??
I do not have anything quiet as serious as what yours sounds, but am now curious to the extent of the problem.

Good news on your result with a replacement car !![:)]

My 2 problems are explained in the first entry to this thread, one located on the boot lid, just above the logo and one on the roof part as it curls into the rubber above the door window. In fact too small to capture good picture resolution.

Had one similar paint matter on a previous new E class and the local dealer offered to respray the boot, ( using their local contractor, which i dicsovered later.

The car came back, as you would guess, a slightly different shade, Aaargghhh !.
It was finally resolved, but what an headache.

This brings me back to the SLK and my reluctance to let anyone outside of MB touch it with paint.
I am now requesting a new replacement boot and roof part, painted at the factory and sent over.

Does anyone fully understand the UK regs for my legal position on this ??
