May be we should start a alist of thing to watch out for upon delivery.Such as tge roof problem seat belt isue,.....etc...
Here's an old list I started compiling from previous post:

1. Check for scratches under the lower edge of front bumper cover

2. Check for paint chips along the rear edge of the hood where someone may have inadvertently lifted the wiper arm into the hood edge. A paint chip on the wiper arm itself should raise some suspicions.

3. Check panel alignment below doors

4. Check to make sure that both rubber bumpers on the lower rear edge of the rear window are in place. These bumpers protect the plastic cover in side the trunk from being scratched by the window frame which rests on the cover when the top is down. You can only see these while the top is in the process of being lowered.

5. Check the tire pressure.

6. Inspect whole car for dings, dents and scratches, including alloy wheels.

7. Inspect interior for scrapes, etc.

Make sure everything you ordered is actually there, including accessories.

Check spare tire and the special lug nuts that it may need.
Check fabric wind deflector

Check operation of major functions like air conditioning, Airscarf, Nav system, CD changer, interior lighting, power seats, heated seats, and so forth.
Put the top up and check for wind noise and creaks/rattles from the roof.

a couple of thoughts....check the windshield and other glass surfaces for chips, cracks and scratches... check the tires and rims for any sign of
abuse...check the headlights as well for any imperfections....

Check the seats.

1- Make sure there are no damages to the leather.

2 - Make user there is no squeeking noise when you sit and rock the seats back and forth, etc.

Check that the VIN number is the same as we have been told.

I had my first broken part....the pin holding the hinge of the plastic shell retaining shield in the trunk broke causing the hinge to come loose and the shield to come off track....naturally they had to order the part....could have been worse- it could have been the roof !

Plastic aerial tool to remove it

You have the correct mats

Remote roof works, if you have chosen it

Have someone else with you to check the paint work.

Check the roof cover is flush when roof is down

Full tank of petrol

Drive the car at a high enough speed to verify that it does not pull to one side or the other.

Photos describing #4...

I posted a tip about these "bumper" pads when I got my first SLK350 back in September. I added some photos to a new folder in the gallery (see link below). I hope people don't mind me using the gallery for technical tips and other "how to" topics. It seems to be easier to find things in the gallery than to search through old postings. Of course that could be because hardly anyone but me makes use of the R171 gallery.

Wow, this will really come in handy when my car arrives! I am not sure I understand what to look for in #4. Has someone actually had this problem?

I access the photo gallery and appreciate your efforts.

I actually put two photos in the r171 folder, but they came up as posted by ScottMarbella. I just sent an email to the forum this week for the second time, but have had no reply.[:(!]

possible "bug" with gallery

Motzkoman - You may have answered a question I have been wondering about. Whenever you create a folder in the public gallery, the folder also appears in your "personal" space on the forum. When you create a photo album in your own personal space, it is NOT displayed in the public gallery. Apparently, any photo posted will be attributed to the creator of the photo album or folder. I posted a photo to the "SLK R171" folder and sure enough ScottMarbella is credited with posting the picture.

RE: Quality Control list / emial pre-delivery

I found the quality checklist most helpful when I had my car delivered. I compiled a very similar list from posts before. I checked the rubber pads, the bodywork alignment which someone had a problem with, under the front airdam for scrathes and scrapes, and many more things.

I also wrote him an email before delivery, describing a number of things I wanted them to check before delivery (many of which I picked up on this forum). This saved time on the day of delivery. See below for the key points from this email.

My dealer waited very patiently for me to finish with my rather thorough inspection. Happy to say, I found nothing wrong. Well worth the effort though.

Ps. My car was delivered with 15km/9 miles on the odometer. See 2. below.

roadsta

Extracts from the email before delivery...

1. I do not want holes drilled in the front bumper...

2. You have given me an undertaking to ensure that the vehicle is driven the absolute minimum before delivery, and certainly not for purposes other than one road inspection. I appreciate that and count on it.

3. I understand that Mercedes uses fully synthetic oil. Could you please confirm that this will be the case with this car, and confirm with me upon delivery.

4. Please ensure that the fabric wind deflector, the tool to remove the antenna, and other standard accessories are with the car.

5. Please do not put any stickers on the car. [personal choice]

6. I have read about some customers who had problems with noise inside the car with the roof up. This was solved with the application of silicone on some rubber seals. (Mercedes recall / technical solution.)

7. I also read that some customers had issues with

a. wheel alignment
b. some suspension issues?
c. some COMAND systems did not have the latest software installed in its memory.

Please ensure that all these and other recall issues have been attended to.

Thank you...
