I just bought one of these from Harbor Freight for about $50 after 20% off coupon.

1000 Lb. Capacity Engine Support Bar

I have a pressing need for one on a VW, but eventually I can see myself pulling the (good 560SL) subframe I have on our 380SL to completely rebuild it. And, perhaps change the lower timing chain guides.

I know where there's a 560SL sitting in Northeast Oklahoma.

Almost never driven, torn up hood, battery probably dead, senior citizen owner...

If you can get past the dog and the firearms, you could probably get it for a song. :D

The subframe doesn't have to be from a 560. The earlier subframes are just fine provided they are rust free. Fabricating and welding in the supports is pretty simple. I did it when I had mine out for the engine swap. There are several threads that describe the process in detail. Obviously if you can get a 560 subframe for the same price, you'll save yourself the hassle.

I never welded too and I'm not really feeling that adventurous haha.

Unfortunately. On the way home the steering was pulling a lot so I started looking around once I got out of the car and saw this.
You're lucky that nothing bad happened. That was an accident in the making.

No more driving that thing.

uh...and then what did you do? (besides crap your pants)
Hopped right on here and a couple other sites to try to find someone that actually knows what they're talking about and look for parts.

Don't I know it. Definitely no more driving until I get it fixed.

One other thing, if you have trouble finding a 560 and are going to get someone to weld the gussets.

The subframe doesn't even have to be from an R107. W114. W115, W108 are the same ( someone correct me if I am wrong), but will need the gussets.

I almost had to change my drawers and I am just looking at the pictures.

Those belong in the EGv107.

I suggested the 560 sub frame because of the updates. As several have suggested the early models can be reinforced. Consider what you can get both for. If the 560 is a little higher then consider the cost of buying the gussets and having someone weld them on the early model. I estimate that to be $150.00. If you can find a 450 subframe that was done by MB on the recall that would be great.

^^ also, the 560 frame is really a bit stronger than just the added the gussets since the upright gussets are, in effect, boxed over with a horizontal. Your welder could probably easily duplicate this effect, but consider the costs.

I would be glad to let you guys take my pictures and add them to the EGv107 if you want. Hopefully someone else will benefit from my horrible luck.
