I have the opportunity to purchase a garage-kept 1985 380SL with 35,000 miles. I have checked the various car pricing guides and they give me a figure of around $10,000 for the car. This seems low to me but would appreciate any comments on a fair price for this vehicle. It is in excellent shape and I am not sure the pricing guides do justice to the low milage. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd say go for it...

IF everything else checks out, go for it.

My wife is looking at an '83 380SL for the same price with 78,000 miles, so yours seems like a bargain.

I am now paranoid, of course, about the whole timing chain issue that I keep reading about. That would be my only concern (check out the thread below on Request for Advice Part II)

Good luck,
JBG

same boat

I just purchased an '85 380SL from an older couple with 85,000 miles. I know them and feel very fortunate. Paid $8,500 (which is low). Always garaged, hard top had never been off. All original and immaculate. But 35,000 miles! Great start. The one thing that was mentioned was that some of the suspension bushing, etc. may be worn from non-use.
Enjoy.
