I was sitting at the light today, And up beside pulls another ML 320, with the all flat black Rhino paint job, and the weird thing is, It looked really good.

It had all of the front / rear brush guards in black, with AMG wheels.

I tried to take a pic with my iPhone, but the light changed before i could get my phone ready.

Has anyone else seen anything like this before, The vehicle actually looked really good.

Thanks

like the lower area was done with rhino/line-x or the entire paintable area of the vehicle?

In fact before winter I am having some rust repairs all below the rub strip on 3 of 4 doors.
The salt has not been kind at 230k miles and almost 13 years.

At the body shop we are tinting the rubber texture coating to match the paint as closely
as possible and that will be on all four doors below the rub strip. We did it to an F-250
quad cab in red and it looked great. So I am saving hours of prep time and going to do
something a little different and try this coating. I will post pics in Nov when it is done.

The entire vehicle was done with the Rhino, in black, I looked at the web site, and they sell the Rhino coating in various colors.

I'm thinking of doing mine in the same manner.

I just tracked down the web site as well. A buddy just had a Rhino liner put in his new F150 and is very happy with it. If you decide to have your ML done please post some pictures.

Yes, I will post some before, and after pics of it.

I remember when i was stationed down at Benning, Other guys in Ranger reg. had some of their trucks painted the same way, never thought about doing my Mercedes that way, that is until now...

This guy i know has from the rub strip down done in rhino on both a vw golf and vw eurovan (both dark blue cars) in the stock black and it looks really sharp. Gave both vehicles a more utilitarian rugged feel. I never would have thought to do it. It seems to make even more practical sense on a tough truck like the ML.

Whats really funny is , its cheaper to buy in gallon size cans, and the manufacturer told me, it could be sprayed on, or with a roller, and the texture comes out the same regardless.

They said it would be easier, and less clean up to use a roller on it, just prep any rust spots, no need to use primer, as the Rhino stuff seals it in from all of the elements.

That will be my project next week, once it is done, i will post pics, and so glad i have my heated garage, so if this crappy weather in Ohio stays the same, it will not matter.

I plan on doing the entire vehicle in, and the wheel wells also. But not sure if i will mask off any chrome or not, and give it that European AMG one color look, the way some of the 80's AMG Mercedes was done.

I had an AMG 500 class back in 89, and everything was blacked out, even the grill, and emblems.

So should i do the chrome also, or leave a little chrome showing ?

I was at Autozone today, and they carry this product, It's just as good as Rhino products;

Dupli-Color/1 gal. black Bed Armor truck bed liner kit with Kevlar inc. roller tray, edging brush, scuff pad, stir stick, full color instruction, roller cover and roller frame (BAK2010) | Truck Bed Coating | AutoZone.com

And only $ 99.99 for the entire kit, and comes with a gallon, enough to do two vehicles the clerk told me, and he also said a lot of people have been using it to paint their vehicles, so I guess it's starting to become very popular.

You have me very intrigued by this project. I was going to suggest that you leave some chrome showing until I saw these:

What made me decide against voting for chrome is this pic, I just don't find it flows as well.

Good luck on your project.

Yes, that is exactly what my Benz looked like years ago, I found a pic of what my looked like years ago, and yes all blacked out, and yes the all one color scheme, no chrome does flow so much better.

Especially when i put the set of AMG wheels i have for it on the vehicle.

I just need to find out how to apply it exactly, without it being so thick, and interfering with the doors, the hatch, or the hood, and other parts on the vehicle.

Let me know what you think.
