Well enough procrastination already! This will be a progressive thread with updates on progress. You'll either love it or hate it when it's done but it will be a W116 in a league of its own.Lots of surprises to follow :D

1976 450SE Euro fully blacked out.Should be completed in a month or month 1/2.

Phase 1 ; Determining how far they protrude out on the front.I'm feeling this will be adequate.

Next to come, sheetmetal fabbing and such.

I figured the name was not yet taken. Let's imagine if Darth Vader drove a W116 and what would it look like

New Widebody Pics

I faked on the unfinished ground effect to give you guys a better picture of what's going on. The slot towards the rear is a brake cooling vent in case your wondering.:D ;) Multi-angles below, use your imagination for now.

Hi Nutz
I'm interested in how your making the side skirts, I hope when your done you can give me a run down, I'm keen to do that myself

Also, Karugs, is that other car, the one at the airport really a 116?
It can't be a 123 CE because I can see it has window frames
The wing looks naff sure but it's the coupe aspect which interests me
Do you have more info or pics of this car?

Cheers, Damon

Hi Damon, it seems to be a 123, not a 116. It looks to be a sedan with the rear doors merged with the rest of the body. The rear window is of a sedan and the trunk has no center chrome trim that distinguishes a 116 from a 123. Lastly if you look at the "shoulders", the one shown in the pic has a narrower profile unlike the 116 that has "larger shoulders" (or fenders). Hard to explain...

Nutz! EVERYONE is waiting to see the outcome! Seeing how your imagination is translated to reality. So far, your imagination seems to get translated quite well!!!

Yes!!! We want to see forms/everything you'll share. So... two preliminary questions:

1. Do you have wheels and tires so you are enlarging the fenders to clear a certain dimension? Or are you going wide and then finding the most humongous wheels you can fit?
2. Why aren't you working on this 24/7???

When I get back to the ground effects,I'll give a brief tutorial on how forms are made and the process from start to finish but for now I want to stay focused on the sheetmetal work.

Daveward,I'm going with 18 to 20" wheels and then will lower the car accordingly. Here are the ones I'm feeling at the moment.

Widebody Update

Well, too much time being spent on this one fender but it's close enough for now.I'll fine tune it after I get caught up with the other three. A thin coat of primer to keep it from rusting up on me.

wow! just liket that. how much time invested in the one fender? looks great. I agree the second of the two black wheels looks best. Cant wait to see the finished project.

I was going to try make my own but I now have some 126 SE side skirts on their way to me from Singapore, I originally planned to extend them for my 500SEL but I think I might fit them to my 116 along with the front airdam I had on my 500
They have been cut into pieces to keep shipping costs down, so I'll need to put them back together and do whatever modifying is necessary for them to fit

So I hope I can get some tips and techniques from what your doing, no rush of course
