Dear Gill:
I know why you can not understand the North American desire for powerful engines. You live in London; I have been there putting around at 5 mph, in incredible traffic. When you live in a tiny country where the highest mountain is the size of an ant hill, you don't understand the concept of a huge country with huge mountains that requires climbing power.
By the way I am not dissing G.B. my forfathers came from Glen Coe at the base of Ben Nevis.

Thanks for the information, I didn't know the facts regarding the S280. I have owned cars in the 1800cc class that have had amazing performance for the engine size. Such as the 1967 MGB and a volvo P1800 both of which had no trouble exceeding 110MPH (with overdrive).
I also recall returning south from Scotland in a VW Golf traveling at 100MPH and being passed by peugeots and forein cars I didn't even know the names off, and they went by to quickly to be identified!
