How thick is the gold plating on that starter?
Must be dealer. Rebuilt is $140.00 or so with guarantee.

Well, no gold plating, not a dealer, it's my indie. He states that he'll only install an original MB starter that has been rebuilt by MB. So, the high cost of the starter with a 2 year guarantee.

That is way out of line, IMO. Even if he's charging list price, the Bosch LIST price is only 249.99.

250 bucks is a lot of tax and miscellaneous.

If an additional year of warranty is worth $250 then carry on. He's entitled to his opinions, but I guarantee MB does not rebuild their own stuff. Bosch does.
