: I'm a M-B newbie to be. Ready to order a C240 with 6sp. Probably going for the sports pkg, although charcoal would not be my first choice in interiors (java).
So, to anyone who has seen, felt, and or smelled both the leathers, what do you think??
Thanks.
Well if you go for the Sport Package, you only get the Charcoal leather. The other leather is nice too, but I think the cloth is great. I saw it yesterday and it was really nice looking. I know that the resale will be less, but it is sure nice.
I guess you have to decide what is more important to you, the Sport Package with the better tires, rims, suspension OR the lower level leather.

I have it . . .

although I was kind of foced to get it.
I ordered a car, waited for 3 months, only to find out the dealer messed up my order.
So, I called around and located an incoming car that was exactly what I had ordered, except it came with the premium leather (I didn't order that on my ordered car).
Is is worth it? I think only you can answer that. I've had the car for a couple weeks now, and now that the pain of writing the big check has gone, I am happy with the leather. It seems like it is excellent quality. The vinyl looked good, too, but not quite the same, and the stitching on the full leather seats seems a little nicer and straighter.
You should note that in the standard car, only the center, perforated pieces on the seats are leather. All of the rest (the bolsters, headrests, door panels, etc.) are vinyl.
For me, I guess its a close call. I am happy I have it, and don't regret paying for it. If I had to order again, I'm not sure what I would do, but its always harder to go backwards ("a luxury once sampled becomes a necessity"), so I think I'd lean towards springing for it.

: I'm a M-B newbie to be. Re: I have it . . .

The same thing happened to me when I bought my 95 C280 in Garnet Red metallic. The dealer found the only car in this color with the Saddle interior in the couintry but it was leather instead of the Tex I thought I wanted. When I saw it I couldn't believe my dumb luck. It looks so much richer that a Saddle Tex interior (a friend has one) that I think it's well worth the extra cost. Keeping it clean has been no problem. The red exterior with the tan interior just knocks me out. NOW, MB won't build cars in these combinations. "Ve know best und you vill like it"

I've just Ordered a c320 avantgarde with Designio leather, The standard leather on Mercedes cars is in my humble opinion umbecoming of the marque. I haven't actually seen the "designo" on the new c-class, but I am considering deleting the leather option all-together and having it done by Brabus afterwards.
